Final decision regarding birthing services made at the Erie St. Clair LHIN Open Board Meeting
At the Erie St. Clair (ESC) LHIN Board Open Board Meeting on June 23, 2015, the Board issued a final decision regarding the Leamington & Area Obstetrics & Birthing Services.
This Board meeting concludes the 30-day process to collect community written submissions regarding the motion passed at the May 5, 2015 Special Open Board Meeting. At today’s meeting, the ESC LHIN Board has passed the following motion (Item 9.1.1 – June 23, 2015):
Leamington District Memorial Hospital (LDMH)
Proposed Integration Decision
MOTION: Moved by Joseph Bisnaire and seconded by Barbara Bjarneson that the ESC LHIN Board continues to move forward with the proposed integration decision, as written. ESCLHIN staff also recommend the following supplemental actions:
- That work continues on the development of the Navigation Centre with a target of receiving a briefing of the final model’s structure and parameters of services within the third quarter (Q3) of the current fiscal year.
- That in the development of the Navigation Centre Model, a simulation exercise occurs. The results and outcomes of the simulation exercise will be summarized in a readiness assessment report to be shared with the Board prior to the Navigation Centre’s formal operation.
- That ESC LHIN staff work with LDMH on the cost structure and care model of the obstetrics service in order that the service is more in line with the notional funding provided by Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) sources.
- That ESC LHIN staff work with the MOHLTC on temporary financial support for the expansion of the slow stream rehabilitation beds until the impact of the expanded beds are fully recognized through the hospital’s funding formula impact.
At the May 5, 2015 Special Open Board meeting, the Expert Panel Leamington & Area Obstetrics & Birthing Services presented information from the report they compiled in response to the ESC LHIN Board request to review the Leamington District Memorial Hospital (LDMH) proposed intention of eliminating the obstetrical service.
Since the announcement of the proposed service change, the Board has heard from LDMH, community leaders, stakeholders, and the general public regarding the program changes proposed by LDMH.
